What is genetic incompatibility of partners

9

15% of families today are considered infertile. And there are a lot of reasons for this. The inability to conceive a child can be manifested due to physical disorders in both one and the other partner, and in some cases both at once. Sometimes the problem is not to conceive, but to bear a child. Recently, such a term as the genetic incompatibility of spouses has begun to sound more and more often.

The diagnosis of genetic incompatibility of spouses does not mean at all that a woman cannot become pregnant. Quite often, conception occurs, the fetus is fixed in the uterus and begins to develop. However, this does not last long. As a rule, already at the beginning of the term – even before 10 weeks, a woman’s pregnancy is interrupted. There is either a miscarriage or a frozen pregnancy. And with each attempt to have a child, the situation repeats itself. Therefore, a couple is necessarily sent for a consultation with a geneticist.

Incompatibility itself is a struggle of antibodies in a woman’s body, which is directed against one "enemy" – pregnancy. According to the biology course, every cell that is in the human body is covered with protein. It is called leukocyte antigen, or scientifically, HLA. The main task of this antigen is to recognize harmful substances foreign to the body – viruses, malignant cells and pathogenic bacteria. The role of antigens in the body is quite simple – when an enemy is detected, send a signal to the human immune system, which, in response to the threat, begins to produce antibodies that can overcome pests.

Pregnancy in a woman can persist if the father’s antigens differ from the mother’s. Despite the fact that the mother’s proteins interpret the embryo as a new foreign cell, the female body, recognizing the father’s DNA as non-native, additionally begins to produce antibodies to protect the fetus from rejection. If the antigens of the father and mother are sufficiently related in terms of gene similarity, the necessary protective antibodies are not produced in the woman. For them, the fetus is an alien set of genes that must be eliminated. Proteins attack the new cell and expel it from the mother’s body.

If there is even a slight difference in genetic indicators, the couple has a chance to endure and give birth to a child. When the sets are almost identical, we are talking about the genetic incompatibility of the spouses.

To find out whether a couple has incompatibility or not, it is necessary to take blood from a vein for analysis. Evaluate the collected material within 14 days. Then the doctor can make a diagnosis. If more than two proteins match, genetic incompatibility will be confirmed.

However, it is often not necessary to talk about complete incompatibility. Such cases are rare. Most of the options are partial. This pathology can be corrected if careful monitoring of pregnancy is carried out from the very early stages. For correction, medical treatment of both spouses is carried out. Its purpose is to introduce drugs into the woman’s body that will help the body learn to recognize the husband’s chromosomes. In this case, the body will be able to function in its natural cycle. Sometimes a couple may be offered artificial insemination to reduce the risk of pregnancy termination.

If you heard the diagnosis of "genetic incompatibility", do not immediately despair. Modern medicine is developed at a high enough level to help you cope with this problem and give birth to a healthy and strong baby as a result.

What if the purpose of the relationship is something unconditional for which both the man and the woman could take responsibility? What if this is… the practice of love? Love is what is within us; something for which we are responsible in both good and bad times. Love allows us to focus on our own efforts and responsibilities, as well as to notice the advantages of our partner. Too many people focus on taking something from the relationship. But, for a harmonious relationship, you need to give, take responsibility for your happiness, and then “invest" it in others.
