Biopics are always drama. Such is human life. But biopics will captivate us with their believability, motivating examples of success stories. They are always informative and instructive. Today’s film criticism column of our magazine is dedicated to just such a movie.

A dramatic biopic about the talented and ambitious ceramic artist Clarissa Cliff. The action takes place in London in the 1920s of the last century. We now call this time the era of jazz, avant-garde and art deco. Clarissa Cliff, a young ideological artist, is looking for herself by working in various pottery workshops. The Cliff family is without a breadwinner, and Clarissa is forced to nurture her talent with an eye on the responsibility of providing for her mother and sister. In difficult times not only for her family, but also for the country’s economy, the main character convinces the owner of the factory to release a completely provocative and bright line of dishes. This idea almost drives the factory into bankruptcy, until Clarissa herself takes over its promotion.

At the same time, a scandal breaks out due to the fact that the actress is accused of being a member of the Communist Party. Bursting at the seams and her marriage. After all, Desi, who is loving and caring on the screen, is still a ladies’ man in life, and Lucy is tired of putting up with newspaper articles about her husband’s dissolute adventures.

Dramatic biopic starring Jessica Chastain. Actions take place in America in the second half of the last century. Here she easily and quickly converges with Jim Becker – after all, they have so much in common! Jim is also young, devout, and brilliant as a preacher. However, Tammy and Jim’s romance and marriage leaves them unable to continue their college studies. Then the young couple begins to look for themselves in televangelism. Together they organize several Christian missionary television programs and achieve unprecedented popularity. Jim manages to combine the love of God with the ability to convince people, persuading them to donations. The result is an outstanding financial result and unbridled luxury, which the Beckers can now afford. Unfortunately, at this stage, the temptations become too much, and the collapse of the Beckers is inevitable.

Cat Worlds by Louis Wain
A dramatic costumed biopic about the famous English artist Louis Wayne, who lived at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and became famous for his numerous images of anthropomorphic cats, for which some sources even call him the largest graphic artist of Victorian fairy tale painting. The role of the eccentric Louis Wayne was brilliantly played by Benedict Cumberbatch. The role of his beloved wife, who inspired Louis to create drawings of cats, went to Claire Foy, who was so beloved by the viewer in the first seasons of the TV series The Crown. It is curious that back in 2014, the script for this film made it to the list of the best (not yet filmed) scripts in the UK, but Louis Wayne’s Cat Worlds has only just been released. They tell about the difficult inner world of the artist, his fears, true aspirations, family tragedy and boundless love for his wife.

Resistance
War drama based on the biography of the famous mime Marcel Marceau, played by Jesse Eisenberg. The action takes place at the beginning of World War II. Born into a Jewish family, Marcel Mangel lives in Strasbourg and, against the will of his father, who works in a butcher’s shop, is fond of pantomime and gives small public performances in entertainment establishments. With the outbreak of World War II, he is forced to change his surname and brilliantly forges documents for himself, calling himself Marcel Marceau. Soon he joins a group of enthusiasts helping Jewish orphans whose parents died at the hands of the Nazis. With the occupation of France, the protagonist, along with his beloved Emma, joins the French Resistance, where he is desperately trying to resist the Nazi occupation of the country.
