Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson: The Perfect Man

Dwayne Johnson made his screen debut in the early 2000s with a spectacular appearance in the sequel to The Mummy as the scorpion king. By that time, he had already made a dizzying career in wrestling, having won a myriad of titles and awards.

Dwayne Johnson was born in 1972 in California. The boy’s childhood passed in constant traveling due to the peculiarities of his father’s work. Johnson Sr. was a wrestler, so Dwayne constantly watched his father train and prepare for fights. The entire Johnson family was involved in this type of wrestling in one way or another. His maternal grandfather was also a wrestler, and his mother and grandmother were engaged in wrestling promotion.

In middle school, Dwayne Johnson became interested in rugby. In Pennsylvania, where the family then lived, the young athlete was a member of school teams in American football and athletics, and also wrestled. Dwayne’s last school years were spent in Hawaii, where his ancestors come from. In Johnson’s veins flows the blood of immigrants from Samoa, who make up the majority of the population of the islands.

After school, Dwayne Johnson received several offers from colleges at once. He chose the University of Miami, where he was provided with full support and a scholarship. After graduating from the institution in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and criminology, Dwayne Johnson continued his sports career. However, a three-year contract signed with a team from the Canadian Football League had to be canceled when Johnson suffered a serious back injury.

In 1996, Dwayne Johnson took up wrestling. Knowing this world firsthand, he quite briskly entered a new rhythm. The leadership of the World Wrestling Federation WWF decided to play on the family connection of a young wrestler with his father and in every possible way promoted Johnson, who at that time took the pseudonym Rocky Maivia. Composed of the names of his father and grandfather, Dwayne himself did not like it too much, and the very next year he shortened it to "The rock", which means "Rock". Then came his famous habit of talking about himself in the third person, beginning a sentence with the words "The rock speaks." This phrase was perfect for the title of his autobiography, which became a bestseller in 2000.

For 8 years of playing in the WWF, Dwayne Johnson became the champion of the federation 7 times, and also won the 2000 Royal Rumble. In the early 2000s, he began acting in films. His first role was the Scorpion King from The Mummy Returns. The character turned out to be so popular that a tape with that name was filmed a year later. The producers were so confident of success that they agreed to pay Johnson $5.5 million. Thanks to this, Duane got into the Guinness Book of Records as the highest paid debutant in the title role.

Dwayne Johnson is filmed a lot, and is equally good both in hard action films (Doom, Walking Tall, Faster than a Bullet) and in family comedies (Game Plan, Tooth Fairy). He especially fell in love with the second genre after the birth of his daughter Simone. In 2011, the actor returned to the ring and intends to participate in the 2013 Royal Rumble.
