Modern matchmaking scenario

Earlier in Russia, matchmaking was a very important step on the way to a wedding. Today, the fashion for rituals and customs is returning. Of course, the modern scenario of matchmaking is more of a beautiful old ritual than a serious event.

In the Soviet and post-Soviet period, the traditional ritual of weddings was expressed only in the organization of a bachelorette party and a hospitable feast, and obtaining parental consent, the main goal of matchmaking, was absolutely formal. Actually, even today, few people know how exactly the matchmaking ceremony was carried out, after which the guy and the girl are considered the bride and groom.

Today, matchmaking takes place according to a preliminary agreement and an agreed scenario. Whereas earlier, the groom’s matchmakers sometimes came unexpectedly and the parents found out about the daughter’s sympathy already at the ceremony itself.

A modern scenario may involve a simple acquaintance with a small feast at home, not necessarily at the bride’s, but also in a restaurant. Moreover, it is not uncommon for young people to live together in a civil marriage for a long time.

It is noteworthy that matchmaking both earlier and today is a great way to discuss the upcoming main event, namely the organization of the wedding, share the costs, and discuss the details.

Another version of the ceremony is a large-scale event, a whole performance with all the traditional elements of matchmaking: matchmakers, mummers, tales, towels, gifts, bread, and even a matchmaker. Here you can either stylize the room as a Russian hut or conduct a ceremony in a Russian village house. Definitely with an oven. Indeed, according to the rite, if the young beauty of the Russian bridegroom loves, she sweeps with a broom in the direction of the stove from the threshold, hinting at her favor and inviting the matchmakers to linger.

Wedding, Wedding ceremony – one of the family rituals that formalizes marriage. Its social significance comes down to creating a new family for the purpose of procreation, establishing kinship, changing the family and age status and publicly recognizing the status of the spouses. It belongs to the most complex organized rituals. It combines linguistic, folklore-poetic, ritual, musical, visual and other plans.

In general, the matchmaking scenario can be supplemented and adjusted. But, since a whole stylized rite has already been conceived, and not just acquaintance and conversation, it is advisable to prepare well. It is necessary to distribute roles, rehearse speeches, stock up on costumes and paraphernalia, peep a couple of indispensable details (how to sit, to whom and what to give, whose bow is first). To make it interesting and everything looks organic, you can invite professionals as matchmakers – toastmasters, actors. Or a talkative and resourceful friend.
