Royal Houses of the World

5

The splendor of the royal courts has not yet completely died out. Despite the changes that have affected many states in the last century, there are still kingdoms in the world where the king is on the throne (although, as a rule, royal power is limited by the constitution and parliament). Well, or a queen.

For the most part, the ruling monarchy is a tribute to tradition, existing thanks to the consent of the taxpayers to contain this charming archaism. But, it must be admitted, there are genuine kingdoms in the world where the king has full power. Such is the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Bhutan and Nepal.

In Europe, the most famous kingdoms are Great Britain, Belgium, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Holland.

One of the oldest kingdoms is Great Britain. It has been a kingdom for more than a thousand years, and it seems that the British, faithful to the traditions, are ready to spend the next thousand years under the rule of the monarchy.

Windsor is the current ruling monarchy. Despite the scandals that have rocked the throne in recent decades, Queen Elizabeth still manages to maintain the prestige of the monarchy. The fact that interest in the English kings and heirs is still great was demonstrated by the recent wedding of Prince William, which was watched by hundreds of millions of people around the world.

The once resplendent Spanish Royal Court has been in exile since the 1930s. And only after the death of the dictator Franco, the current king of Spain, Juan Carlos I, was able to return to the throne after the restoration.

Probably the biggest democrats among kings are the kings of Norway and Sweden. The Swedish king Carl XVI Gustaf is a representative of the ruling Bernadotte dynasty, by the way, put on the throne by Napoleon. The Swedish king became the youngest king in the history of the dynasty – he ascended the throne at the age of 27 years. He is currently President of the Swedish branch of the World Wildlife Fund and devotes a lot of time to protecting the environment.

The Norwegian king Harald V, beloved by his subjects, walks completely freely in the royal park and around the city, without security and retinue. He, like his father, King Olaf V, was a participant in the Olympic Games, however, he did not rise above eighth place.

The current emperor of Japan came to the throne in 89, after the death of his predecessor, Emperor Hirohito, whose reign was the longest in the history of the country. The Emperor of Japan is a symbol of the state and the unity of the country, as stated in the constitution of Japan.
